Montreal: Published for McGill Poetry Series by Contact Press, 1956. First Edition. First edition, first printing. Signed by Leonard Cohen on the front free endpaper in black ink. 79 pp. Bound in publisher's original black cloth with spine lettered in silver. Near Fine with slight dust-soiling to edges, former owner's name written on front free endpaper, pressed flower laid in between pages 48 and 49 with offsetting, in a Very Good dust jacket with some uneven toning, a few small stains, foxing to spine panel, small square chip to bottom of back panel.
Rare One of approximately 400 copies of the late Canadian singer-songwriter, writer and poet's first published book, a book of poems written when he was 15-20 years old.
Synopsis
Leonard Cohen ’s artistic career began in 1956 with the publication of his first book of poetry, Let Us Compare Mythologies (just reissued). He has published two novels, The Favourite Gam e and Beautiful Losers , and ten books of poetry, most recently Stranger Music: Selected Poems and Songs and Book of Longing . He has to date made seventeen albums, the latest being Dear Heather . Numerous tribute albums, in many languages, have celebrated his songs. He divides his time between Los Angeles and Montreal.
