About This Item

New York: Gallery Books, 2021. First edition. Fine/fine. A fine, fresh unread copy in equalkly fine dust jacket. First edition, first printing. Hardcover. 432 pp. with bibliography, index. Illustrated with color and black and white photographs. The story of how the iconic movie "The Godfather" was made is as dramatic, operatic, and entertaining as the film itself. While over the years many versions of various aspects of the movie's creation have been told, the author here sifts through the evidence, has extensive new conversations with director Francis Ford Coppola and several heretofore silent sources, and complemrnts them with colorful interviews with key players. among the more interesting aspects of the creation and filming was the attitude (and often silent interference) with real-life members of its subject matter---the Mafia. During production, location permits were mysteriously revoked, producer Al Ruddy's car was found riddled with bullets, and "connected" wiseguys vied for and were sometimes given, roles in the film. A remarkably difficult book to find in top, collectible condition.
