About This Item

Novato, CA: Presidio. VG in VG DJ. (1997). Brion enlisted as a recruit in the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps, forerunner of WACs, from her small town of Friendship, NY . at the beginning of WWII. She traveled to Fort Devens, MA, where she learned how to be a soldier, and then to Camp carson outside Colorado Springs, where she learned how to be a dental technician. Ultimately she was trained as a cryptanalyst and was moved to the Phillippines. There she and her fellow workers discovered that their laundry was being wrapped in pages from an important Japanese code book. .
