London: Day & Son, Lithographers to the Queen, nd. Preface dated 1857. First Edition. Hardcover. ex library-good. vi, 216, [2] p. 32 cm. 6 full page colour plates and 3 diagrams in b&w. Illustrations lithographed by Messrs. Day & Son from photos by Robert Watkins. Red cloth with gold impressing on front and blank on rear. Bevelled edges. Ex library with ink stamps on title and verso as well as rear pastedown. Respined with new label. Corners and edges worn, some soiling to the original cloth. New endpapers. Repair to front endpaper. Original rear pastedown preserved. Title has tear in bottom. Some other small tears. Soiling and thumbing. Large chip from bottom of p. 21 an attempt to remove ink stamp. Torn piece enclosed. Text not affected. 2 p. of publisher's ads at rear.

Detailed guide commuicates equestrian knowledge to Victorian ladies. Topics include the riding horse, the habit, the saddle and bridle, mounting and dismounting, positions of the hands, hunting, etc.
