Collins Harvill, London, 1990. First Edition. Hardcover (1/4Cloth 3/4 Boards). Very Good Condition/Good. Map Illustrated endpapers, showing a small map of the bottom part of Florida, with a larger map showing the Everglades in greater detail. 1/4 dark blue coloured cloth covered backstrip with gilt coloured titles. 3/4 aqua coloured boards. Colour illustrated dustwrapper with red and light blue coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. Black-and-white photograph of author to the rear dustwrapper panel. The Florida Everglades of 100 years ago gave shelter to runaway slaves, poor white settlers, survivors of Indian wars and desperadoes and renegades of all ilk. Into this wilderness (both moral and physical) comes Edgar J. Watson, who at once dominates his neighbours. His white framed house proclaims his success as a sugar plantation owner, but, rumour and speculation was rife,as to why such a hard-working man should be in such a poor place as the Everglades, and rumour and speculation start to overtake him ..... Softening and a little fading to the backstrip edges and rubbing to the book corners and lower book edges. Dust marks to the top textblock edge and the front text edge is deckled. Rubbing to the dustwrapper edges and panels with fading to the backstrip. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [9], 2-372, [4] pages..
