NY: Aperture Foundation, 2005. Limited Facsimile Edition. Hosoe, Eiko. Folio, (41) folding double-pages; b&w photogravures from photographs. A fine copy, bound in illustrated cloth, with clear acetate dust jacket, titled in blue ink. Housed in a paper over boards brightly colored clamshell box, especially designed for this edition by Tadanori Yokoo; the front panel has a faint scratch. SIGNED in Japanese and with the photographer's chop mark, and numbered, 31 of 500 copies on a bookplate affixed to the front pastedown. Additionally, this copy was INSCRIBED by the photographer in silver ink in both English and Japanese, and dated upon publication in 2005 on the opposite free-endpaper. To open this book is to see "sky blue"; each page is gate-folded with both verso and recto a field of blue. To look one must open the "sky." Kamaitachi is an old myth of "The Weasel's Sickle" - a "lacerated wound caused by a state of vacuum, which is produced partially in the air, owing to a small whirlwind." During World War II, Hosoe was evacuated to the countryside. He returned to photograph, with the aid of renowned dancer, Tatsumi Hijikata, this tale of madness triggered by jealousy.

All items are offered subject to prior sale. All items are accurately described, however we accept returns for any reason within ten days of receipt; we request notification in advance, and all items must be carefully packed, insured and returned in the condition in which they were received. Ohio customers will be charged the applicable sales tax. Shipping Terms: For domestic delivery we prefer to ship via UPS ground service, insured and request a street address and telephone number. We can, upon request upgrade the delivery to next day, second day or third day air. We also ship via Federal Express or U.S. Postal Service. All items are sent insured with a minimum cost of $6.00. For our overseas customers we offer a variety of delivery services which may vary from country to country. All items are sent insured when possible. For air delivery we use U.S. Postal Service. For very expensive items we ship via Federal Express or UPS insured. When possible, we will send small items via U.S. Postal Service Global Priority if insurance is not available at the customers risk.
