Isaac Collins, 1797. First Edition. Leather Binding. Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Bound in period brown calf, red leather spine label (general rubbing to binding; text foxed with some stains). First edition of this important work in the history of American Quakerism. Two period ink signatures of Phebe Palmer and some minor notes at front and rear. This is most likely THE Phebe Palmer, the pioneeing Methodist evangelist (1807-1874), leader of the Holiness movement, known for her traveling evangelism, missionary work and forceful advocacy of the ordination of women. She authored 'The Promise of the Father' and other works.
