ca. 1925-1930.. in the original frame.. Very fine original condition.. This portrait was presented by Blaine to Steinbeck and remained in his possession for the rest of his life. From the estate of Steinbeck's sister, Elizabeth Ainsworth. Mahlon Blaine designed the dust jackets and endpapers of both "Cup of Gold" and "To a God Unknown." Almost certainly one of the earliest portraits of John Steinbeck.
