A first North American edition/first printing that has some shelfwear to the edges of the boards and spine, else in Nearly Fine condition in a Very Good dust-jacket that also has shelfwear; When Jane Austen's estate is auctioned off in the early 1900s, Valerie Grosvenor is determined to find the unpublished manuscripts that her ancestor, Jane Austen, wrote. After many years of searching, she finally locates a bundle of papers in a drawer of an old desk. Valerie is excited to finally know what happened to her ancestor after she died in 1817. However, when she starts to read the papers, she realizes that they are not Jane Austen's at all- they are the writings of a second Jane Austen, a woman who is very different from the author of Pride and Prejudice. Valerie begins to wonder if she has made a mistake and if she should tell anyone about her discovery. As she reads on, she realizes that this Jane Austen is a radical feminist who fought for women's rights and against the social norms of her time. She also realizes that this Jane Austen is the author of a series of novels that are very; 8vo; 268 pages .
