First edition, in the publisher's original decorative cloth binding. Written by Scottish novelist, Henrietta Keddie, who wrote under the pseudonym Sarah Tytler. Keddie was known for her depictions of domestic realism within her work, becoming very popular with women. This work is a study of Jane Austen and her writings, with chapters on the life of Jane Austen and her novels, as well as extracts from some of her most famous works. This includes chapters of Pride and Prejudice, Northanger Abbey, Emma, Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion.With a frontispiece of Jane Austen and an illustrated title page.With various newspaper cuttings containing information about Jane Austen. In the publisher's original decorative cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with light bumping to the extremities. Cloth is lightly soiled, with areas of damp staining. A touch of fading to the spine. Light rubbing, causing very small loss of cloth to the front board. Light offsetting to endpapers. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Good
