Black cloth with silver lettering on spine. 'Plan of Dublin', map by John Barthalomew & co./The Edinburgh Geographical Institute: spread across both pages of endpapers. Clean, sound. Tight binding. No markings within text. Stated, 'First American Edition' with complete number line: '10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 .' Inspired by Joyce's famous statement regarding his great work, Ulysses: 'I want to give a picture of Dublin so complete that if the city one day disappeared from the earth it could be reconstructed out of my book... ' Maps and archival photography of Dublin as it was Bloomsday, June 16, 1904, are compared to photos taken by Jorge Lewinski in 1981. James Joyce's Odyssey is a lovely book, that might not add much to the enormous weight of James Joyce scholarship, but it is an entertaining addition to the coffee table of any Joyce obsessive.
