London, 1800. unbound. Map on two sheets. Engraving with original hand coloring. Each image measures 24 3/4" x 42 1/2".<br/> <br/> This large and detailed map of Italy includes the main peninsula, as well as Siciily, Sardinia, Corsica, Malta, Dalmatia, Croatia and the Adriatic. It was printed on 4 sheets, joined 2 by 2. Major roads, towns, rivers, lakes, islands, ports, harbors and topographical features are all labeled. The map is on two sheets, with the top half extending from southern Germany to Puglia. In the text below the title, Faden and Delarochette acknowledge D'Anville's 1743 map of Italy as an important predecessor. A key at the left explains the coloring and labeling system. It also includes some geographical information about French, Italian, and other holdings in the region. The bottom half of the map includes Malta, Sicily, and Sardinia, as well as 7 international scales and a key of labeling conventions for roads.<br> <br> Louis Stanislas d'Arcy De la Rochette (1731 - 1802) was a British cartographer and engraver based in late 18th century London. He produced maps in conjunction with various other contemporary British cartographers.<br> <br> William Faden (1750-1836) was an 18th century English cartographer, engraver, mapseller, and publisher as well as 'Geographer to His Majesty & to his H.R.H. the Prince of Wales, George III & George IV.<br/> <br/>
