The cover photo was reproduced from an old postcard and the stains were intentionally left in place.. 4to (about 10.75 inches tall) . Notes, references. Description: Illustrated in black and white with historic photographs. A new look at Ishi, the last free-living Indian of North America. Ishi, a lone Yahi Indian, first joined ''civilization'' when he wandered into Oroville in Butte County in northern California in 1911. Later printings had 238 pages due to an added index.
