The philosophical musings of the influential American philosopher and educator in a Modern Library Giant edition. John Dewey (1859-1952) was especially concerned with education and believed strongly in the benefits of democracy. Edited, and with 241-page introduction by Joseph Ratner. --- In Toledano spine G5 / pale green cloth / gilt titling & ML torchbearer oval on green cover & spine blocks / faded green topstain / plain GA endpapers / jacket style Gd, verso advertises 362 titles in ML catalog. Likely published c.1952 (though 1939 date appears in book). ML #G43.1. --- With mild discoloration to cloth, prior owner's bookplate & signature to front endpapers, otherwise a clean, tightly-bound, unmarked copy. Dust jacket with chips and small tears to extremities and sunning to spine; otherwise bright and wrapped in removable archival mylar protector.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; xv, 1077 pages .
