About This Item

Indigenous People and First Nations in North Vancouver: History, Traditions, and Culture, Khelsilem. Published by the North Vancouver Museum and Archives Commission, North Vancouver, B.C., 2017. Limited Edition. Oblong Folio up to 15" tall (31 x 41 cm); 44 glossy pages with text, illustrations, maps, photographs. Light wear to covers; contents are in fine, unmarked condition. A very scarce copy of a beautiful and important publication.

"The book highlights significant aspects of the traditional and contemporary culture of Indigenous people and communities in North Vancouver. While acknowledging that many different groups and communities of Indigenous people travelled throughout, occupied, and gathered resources on the north shore of Burrard Inlet and surrounding areas, including the ancestors of the present-day Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations, this book focuses on the recent contributions and histories of the Indigenous people who have communities on the north shore today."

Khelsilem is a writer, educator and community organizer. He is both Squamish and Kwakwaka'wakw raised in North Vancouver, BC.
