Insel-Verlag, 1923. First Edition. Hardcover. GOOD. 16mo, printed paper over boards, black Rroman-lettered spine title, front cover author, publisher and date in black Roman letter with title in red Fraktur within double-ruled border. Tips worn, spine rubbed and splitting along front hinge, chipped 1' at tail. Joel Kraemer's copy with his pencil annotations to the Buber's poetic and aphoristic introduction. Signature to FFEP and date inscription 'Nov. 1955.'. Buber's epoch-making work of would leave few discourses untouched in its wake, most obviously phenomenology of religion, but also and surprisingly scientific epistemology, medical ethics, psychology ... the list goes on. Joel Kraemer was a major scholar of the intersections of Islam and Judaism, eventually writing the definitive biography of Maimonides. He a student of Leo Strauss at the time of his inscription.
