About This Item
Norman, OK: University of Oklahoma Press, 1994 University of Oklahoma Press, Norman, OK. 1994. Hardcover. Ex-Library copy. First Printing. Book is tight and square. It has former library book marking; pocket on FFFP, sticker on spine; stamps to front and r ear pastedown and half-title page; textblock top and bottom. Book Condition: VG+ but with library markings, otherwise near fine. DJ: VG+; taped to front and rear pastedowns. Green cloth boards with bright gold lettering on spine. 182 pp. In September 1909, a sensational double killing in Southern California led to the West's last famous manhunt for Willie Boy, a Paiute-Chemehuevi Indian who killed his potential father-in-law and his girl before killing himself. The story has survived more than eight decades of white versions but never a historical account that incorporates pertinent Indian perspectives into the story. The authors breathe life into his story and illuminates how Indian-hating can distort and suppress the past. A very presentable ex-library copy with gentle use in a mylar jacket.
