"For the Instruction of Hospital Stewards, Ward-Masters, and Attendants, in Their Several Duties. J. J. Woodward (1833-1884) was a Philadelphia surgeon who enlisted with the Army of the Potomac in June 1861. In May 1862 he was assigned to the office of the surgeon general in Washington where he planned hospital construction.
