About This Item

New York, NY: Simon & Schuster, 2003, 1998. First Edition, First Printing . Hardcover. COLLECTIBLE - NEW/New. BRAND NEW & Collectible. First Edition, First Printing. Bi-color boards/Fine. DJ/Fine. A fisty, scathing indictment of Ken Starr (1946 -) who opened the door to impeachment of Bill Clinton. James Carville (1944 -), lead strategist for Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign, says from the very start, "You know something? I don't like Ken Starr. I don't like one damn thing about him. I don't like his politics. I don't like his sanctimony. I don't like his self-piety. I don't like the people he runs with...." Starr investigated alleged financial misconduct (Whitewater), White House counsel Vince Foster's suicide, and personal conduct of the President (Lewinsky, Flowers). A highly unpleasant chapter in U.S. political history in which all protagonists are stripped of any admirable qualities and are paraded, and parade, at their ugliest best. The book does highlight problems of prosecutorial power abuse, but even more so, a troubled America uncertain what to expect of leadership in the political arena. Unfortunately Carville's account, like the Starr report, is equally damming, partisan & unattractively righteous. Photos of Carville shows him personable as a friendly, approachable guy in a cowboy hat, those of Starr are unattractive. Carville is an unrivaled master of semiotics.
