About This Item

New York: American Bible Society, 1857 The title page verso states “1st Edition,” so this is a first thus, but of what version of the Bible I cannot say. Condition notes: Pages: outer pages well annotated, ivory, shaken, a.e.g. (but the gilt is well worn); there are several text pages missing, and many shaken pp laid in, hinges sprung in several locations. Cover: full leather wrap cover w/ tongue to front, script gilt titles to spine; moderate external shelfwear, extrems worn esp tongue. Internals are too worn for a reading copy; its value is as a collectible of bibles of a bygone era or to aid in comparative bible study.

Fine-AN, but not as bright, minor marks or other minor defects. Very Good (VG)-small to modest tears, chips, marks, cocked etc. Good (G)-not so much, with larger tears or chips, possibly soiled, cocked, etc. Fair-ugly, with pages or large areas of DJ missing or other major defects.
