About This Item

New York: Viking, 1973. Viking, New York, 1973. First Edition, First Printing. Fine/Fine. HC/DJ. I have placed a Brodart protective sleeve onto unclipped dust jacket. Book has turquoise cloth covers with gilt and white spine titles. The handsome dust jacket depicts a Hittite deity on the front panel and a portal lion on the rear panel. Book is tightly bound, with no marks or inscriptions, handsome endpaper maps, and does not appear to have been read. Translated from the German by J. Maxwell Brownjohn. Book has 23 b/w illustrations. The Hittite Empire, once rivaling the Egyptians and Assyrians in power, vanished about 1200 B.C. Based on 20th Century archeological discoveries, the author traces this ancient people from the Stone Age through their greatest years, during which they crushed the city of Babylon, controlled Syria and Anatolia, and even conquered the great army of Ramses II. The book measures roughly 6 by 8 ½ inches, with 288 pgs. See photo.. First Edition. Cloth. Fine/Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Chap Book.
