Volume I is unclipped, Volume II is clipped to the rear flyleaf but is not price-clipped.A smart facsimile of this work, which was first published in 1834-37.A history of the Twelve Great Livery Companies.The Twelve Great Livery Companies were a nature of guilds that dated from Saxon times, and were usually of a religious kind. It was a guild that assured the that members of the society would take care of other members when in need.Looking at mercers, grocers, drapers, fishmongers, goldsmiths, merchant taylors, skinners, haberdashers, salters, ironmongers, vintners, and clothworkers.Written by William Herbert, a librarian and antiquary. He is best known for this work, though he also published 'Antiquities of the Inns of Court and Chancery', 'London before the Great Fire', 'School Elocution', and more. In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original dust wrappers, Volume I is unclipped, Volume II is clipped to the rear flyleaf but is not price-clipped. Externally, very smart, with only some very minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. Scattered spots to the fore edges. Dust wrappers with minor edge wear, with tape repairs to the reverse. Spines are age-toned. A few light marks to the wraps. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpapers.
