About This Item
Frederic k Warne & Co. LTD, 1976. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7. Collectible. Frederic k Warne & Co. LTD, 1976. First Edition. Published simultaneously in London, New York, and Canada (by Saunders of Toronto Limited). Hardcover in Very Good Condition. Includes The Picture Letter (Chapter One), a letter sent by Beatrix Potter to an ill five year old on Sept. 4th, 1893. Pictorial binding has a touch of wear to corners and spine head and heel. Internals in Fine Condition. Taken mainly from Leslie Linder's "A History of the Writings of Beatrix Potter" together with the text and illustrations from the first privately printed edition. With eight plates in colour and text illustrations in black and white. Seventy-five years ago ( at the time of this publication), on December 16th, 1901, Peter Rabbit first appeared in print, and nearly a year later in October, the first Warne edition was published. This volume was published to commemorate the 75th anniversary with its major feature the entire text and illustrations of Beatrix Potter's first privately printed edition of "The tale Of Peter Rabbit", beloved classic to this day. This "history' tells of the story behind the story-what inspired the author to write it in the first place, the problems that occurred before and after it reached the publisher's office, and its worldwide success. The illustrations are priceless. 63 pages. 8vo. 1976, Frederic k Warne & Co. LTD.
