London: T Becket , 1774 A fair copy of the 3rd edition of this scarce work, in contemporary binding with folding frontispiece. Holwell (1711-1798) was an employee of the East India Company and a surgeon. He became a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1767 and was temporary Governor of Bengal. With folding frontispiece 'representing the Monument erected at Calcutta, in Memory of Sufferers in the Black-Hole Prison'; title page; dedication pp i-vii; half title and text 432pp. The full leather binding is complete but the front board is detached and the title label to the spine is damaged. A 19th-century Sino-Japanese woodblock printing of "Eighteen Histories Outlines" bound in the fukurotoji style. Reischauer -9780674788015 Samurai and Silk - penetrating insight into the Japanese character and the forging of modern Japan from the feudal Tokugawa shoguns to present day economic titans. Only Haru Reischauer could have written this extraordinary family account, beginning with her two illustrious grandfathers: one, a provincial samurai who became a founding father of the Meiji government; the other, a scion of a wealthy enterprising peasant family who almost single-handedly developed the silk trade with America. Remarkable stories, those of their notable descendants, demonstrate the unbounded vision - determination that explain so much about Japan's legendary success.... history Japan bibliography Samurai and Silk: A Japanese and American Heritage by Haru M. "The struggle of man against power is the struggle of memory against forgetting."Scars and bruises may fade, but we must remember what caused them. The purpose of《Wounds of Hong Kong》is to record police brutality. All 24 interviewees have sacrificed in their own ways during the Anti-Extradition Law Amendment Bill Movement. Among the thousands wounded, they are only a few. I would like to sincerely thank them for sharing their experience, insights, and feelings to me. I remember at the beginning of the resistance outbreak in June of 2019. As a photographer/journalist, I felt unsure. Protesters all covered their faces with masks, so how could I tell their stories? How can I search their ethos beneath the masks? However, my worry was quickly swept away as I realized that they weren't the only ones…

This book is in good condition. There is a lot of wear on the front, back, spine and edges of the cover boards. There is also a substantial amount of staining on the cover boards. The pages are yellowed and tanned. There are also markings throughout the book. "The roots of this book reach back to the early 1950s in Paris, where I began my professional career as a journalist. Then, in 1959, I was assigned to cover eastern Asia; the region that included Vietnam became my beat for more than two decades. I visited Vietnam most recently in 1981 for seven weeks, the longest permitted an American correspondent since the Communists gained control of the entire…
