First Edition. Hardcover. Good. First edition. Bound in full, contemporary tree calf. Gilt stamped. Head and tail of spine chipped. Spine label chipped. Hinges have splitting. Marbled end sheets. 4to. vii, [9], 360 pp, including errata leaf and subscribers list. Illustrated with engraved folding frontispiece map, three folding maps, and six folding plates. Armorial bookplate of George Morris Taswell, motto: "Garde Bien." Taswell was a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Madras Fencibles, who died in 1814 in Tours. ESTC T134651. Drinkwater's first-hand account of the siege of Gibraltar, a military classic which proved so popular that it went through four editions in as many years.
