Heavy quarto (28.5cm); olive green pictorial cloth, stamped in foil, in white, green, and magenta pictorial dustwrapper; in grey cardboard slipcover; ix, 345pp, 33 colorplates. Text and dustwrapper toned and foxed throughout; soiling, minor edge rolling and creasing to dustwrapper, with bumps and small chip to crown of spine. Slipcover also foxed and toned, with light wear. Overall Very Good.

Fans of plants and architecture will appreciate Edward Hymes' comprehensive, worldwide look at the history of the garden, from Stone Age plots carved with ancient tools, to the futuristic landscaping of tomorrow (by 1971 standards). Detailed historical accounts are accompanied by photo- and text-illustrations in color and b/w, plus diagrams and reproductions of blueprints.
