London: Longmans, Green, and Co, 1870. Unstated, 1st-1848 . Gilt Dec. black leather. VG for age. 14.5 Cm x 22 Cm. Vol.1 has f/piece Macualay protrait with tissue guard, fr. pastedown has large gift plate of The Law Society of the United Kingdom dated Trinity Term 1873, facing endpaper has 1936 dated gift letter to 'Mary' 'from her loving grandfather', but sig.illegible; all endpapers marbled with gelt dec. borders, all edges gilt, all have small binder's label 'J.Low, 29 Cursitor Street, Chancery Lane' (to bottom fr. pastedowns except in Vol.1 which has it at back), all vols have some scattered tanning to inner sides of endpapers and end blank fly leaves, otherwise all internally clean, tight and unmarked; attractive gilt decorated black leather bindings with round gilt Law Society logo centre front, all however have varying degrees of rubbing to extremeties (occ. a little heavy), also to a number of spine panel ridges, again to varying degrees (heaviest to Vol.2), small spot also to Vol.3 title panel. This remains a very attractive set despite cover running, all vols. being tight and internally unmarked. Cannot help wondering if Mary's grandfather filched it from the Law Society ! Obviously will incur fairly heavy shipping costs, especially outside UK.
