Third volume published in 1868. 615 pp. & 543 pp. Contemporary ½ calf backed marbled boards, black leather labels; edge worn and rubbed, Vol. 2 rear cover marbled paper largely missing, showing cardboard backing. Vol. 2 front hinge slightly cracked, old newspaper ghosting on pp. 270-1 and 364-5. Later bookplates on front pastedowns. Vol. 1 engraved frontis portrait; Vol. 2 litho frontis portrait. The Dukes of Burgundy were rivals for the French crown. Charles the Bold was the last Duke, after his death in battle, 1477, Bungundy lost its independence from Paris.. First American Edition. Hard Cover. Fair to Good /No Dust Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
