About This Item

London: John Van Voorst, 1837. 1st edition. Half leather binding, marbled boards. V.g./No Jacket. Half leather binding, the corners and extremities of spine worn but with attractive gilt decorations on the raised bands; red leather label on spine, with gilt lettering; tightly bound text block, with marbling on all edges. No inscriptions. Well illustrated with small wood engravings.Typed letter from Percy H. Grimshaw on Royal Scottish Museum headed notepaper loosely inserted. The recipient isn't named but his enquiry (about a Bank Vole, Clethrionomys glareolus) had been addressed to Mr W.E. Clarke; but in his absence, Grimshaw was handling his correspondence.
