London:: John Lane The Bodley Head,, 1896.. First edition.. Hardcover. Very Good. xiv, 411; with a few illustrations, including the two that are hand-coloured. Some offsetting from frontis to the title page. An initial blank leaf bears the 1957 ownership name and acquisition note of the marine artist and Naval lawyer Roger Fisher: and a 1920 Naval Staff College bookplate covers an earlier bookplate on the pastedown. Contents otherwise clean and unmarked. In the original binding of black buckram, front decorated with a flag in blind, spine titled and bearing the Seal of the Navy Office in gilt. Recently rebacked, with the original spine laid down. A very good, firm copy, lightly rubbed, corners slightly blunt.
