About This Item

London: Peter Owen, 1990. Third Printing . Trade Paperback. Very Good. 5 1/2" x 8. 318 Pages. Front cover has a 3 inch bottom corner crease, some edge wear and a very slight spine cock. No marks or stamps. First published in 1973. This is the only novel by Salvador Dali and also was an international best-seller that describes the bizarre world already familiar from his paintings. Dali describes, in vividly visual terms, the intrigues and love affairs of a group of dazzling, eccentric aristocrats who, with their luxurious and extravagant lifestyle, symbolize the decadence of Europe in the 1930s. The story of the tangled lives of the protagonists, from the February riots of 1934 in Paris to the closing days of the Second World War, constitutes a brilliant and dramatic vehicle for Dali's unique vision and reads as an epitaph of prewar Europe. This novel was written 1943 when the world was still plunged in the most destructive and lethal war in history, with battles raging on many fronts, from Russia, across Europe and North Africa tdo the Far East.
