Translated from the Italian original by the author with the assistance of two others she thanks in the acknowledgements. Wertmuller was an assistant to Federico Fellini at one time, and went on to be a controversial film director herself ("The Seduction of Mimi," "Love and Anarchy," among others). This book involves two Jews who meet as boys in 1939 Venice, go through the holocaust, survive, and eventually to America where forty years later they meet again.
