Tiny bookseller's lable, armorial bookplate of Charles Arthur Wynne Finch, dated 1878, and small book label of Mari Bicknell to inside front board of all vols. Owner's signature of C. G. (?) Wynne to title pages of all vols. Charles Wynne-Finch (1841-1903), member of a long-established Welsh gentry family. Mari Bicknell, MBE (1914-2003), founder and director of Cambridge Ballet Workshop. Maria Edgeworth (1768-1849), novelist and educator. One of her later works for children, Harry and Lucy Concluded gives considerable insight into her opinions on women's education, with the titular Lucy being reassured that although 'scientific ladies' are rightfully disliked, an unassuming interest in the male pursuit of science should not see her 'abhorred' by 'persons of sense' (vol. I, p. 8). Pencil initials to margin of vol. I, p. 21. Mild foxing. An attractive sound set. ~Robust packaging. All UK orders trackable, others on request. . 1st edition. Hardback. Very Good+. xviii, 287 + 340 + 319 + 336pp. Binding tight, text unmarked.
