About This Item

[London]: Printed [for the Author by Cassell and Company] for Private Circulation, 1886. ix, 230pp. Unopened in original publisher's green cloth, stamped in gilt and blind. A trifle rubbed. Ink-stamp of Nottingham Public Libraries to verso of title page, two early manuscript corrections to text. The first edition, printed for private circulation, of the only published work of Elizabeth Haigh Gilstrap (1822-1891), of whom little is known. According to the author's prefatory remarks, much of the contents of this volume was 'written in youthful days'. The title is evidently a reference to one of the few extant biographical details, her birthplace of Colne Bridge House, Huddersfield. A revised and illustrated edition appeared in 1894. OCLC records copies at just five locations (Cambridge, LoC, Waterloo, Wisconsin, and Waseda); COPAC adds one further (Leeds). . First edition. 8vo.

Antiquates Ltd

Antiquates Ltd was established by Tom Lintern-Mole in 2007; we travel far and wide to buy, sell, and advise on rare books and manuscripts.

Concentrating on hand-press printing and early modern manuscripts, we pride ourselves on offering a varied selection of antiquarian works on a diverse range of subjects, leaning towards the interesting, the important, and the unusual.

We have a countryside bookshop in Wareham; we also regularly issue catalogues - do ask if you would like to be added to our mailing list - and frequently exhibit at regional and national book fairs in London, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Oxford, and York.

We also offer a valuation service (for either insurance or probate purposes), as well as advice on library development.
