GOOD book in GOOD unclipped dust jacket Are schooldays the happiest days of life? This book does not attempt to argue the matter. It simply presents certain aspects of school life during the last two or three hundred years. The author here presents some of the less desirable features of English school history; the kind of reception given to new boys in the nineteenth century; the schoolboys of Lewisham who invoked Black Magic as an aid to robbery; the Great Rebellion at Rugby in which the headmaster's door was blown off its hinges by gunpowder etc etc. All the material is taken from published personal accounts or official histories. The subject has rarely been explored more amusingly than here.
