A lovely first edition of Bernard Levin's charming travel work, the author's presentation copy to the publisher Tom Maschler. The first edition of this work. In the original unclipped dustwrapper. Author's presentation copy, signed by the author to the title page, 'For Tom, Who is a slave-driver, but whose slave-driving, by some extraordinary chance, always turns out to be driving the slave in the right direction. With much esteem and even more affection, Bernard'. Tom Maschler"s bookplate to the verso to the front endpaper. Maschler is a publisher who worked for Jonathan Cape, who discovered and published authors including Ian McEwan and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. 'Hannibal's Footsteps' is a travel work through Europe, in-depth and rich in description. Illustrated with eighteen pages of colour plates. Written by Bernard Levin, an English journalist, typically considered to be the most famous journalist of his day. In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, fine. Dustwrapper is fine with only a very small amount of wear. Bookplate to the verso to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
