An uncommon to find first edition of Samuel Lover's humorous Dickensian Irish novel, complete with plates throughout. The first edition.In the uncommon to find original publisher's cloth. A very entertaining satirical and humorous novel on the life of an Irishman in the first half of the nineteenth century, much in the vein of Dickensian fiction.Illustrated with a frontispiece, and twenty-three plates.Collated, complete.Written and illustrated by Samuel Lover, well known for his songwriting and compositions. Thirty-two pages of adverts to the rear. In the original publisher's cloth binding, rebacked with new endpapers. Externally, smart. Very light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A little light rubbing and a few minor marks to the boards and spine, spine is lightly faded. Front hinge is a little strained but remains firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some spots, the edges of the plates a little more age-toned. Very Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
