Berne, Switzerland, 1946. No Binding. Very Good. Handwritten invitation on His Britannic Majesty’s Minister engraved card: “To meet Mr. & Mrs. Winston Churchill at Home at the British Legation, Tuesday, 17th September [1946] at 9:30 p.m. White Tie.” Hand-dated: “Berne, 4th September.” On August 23, 1946, Winston Churchill, aged 71, landed at Geneva Airport with his wife Clementine and daughter Mary for a stay that would include a major speech in Zurich on September 19. The family was taken to Villa Choisi at Bursinel, overlooking Lake Geneva, where they remained until September 16. On the 17th they visited Berne for this dinner with the British Ambassador Thomas Maitland Snow and his wife, continuing on to Zurich the following day.
