About This Item
New York: Scribner’s, 1944. Later printing; some staining; good in dust jacket. An exceptional association, inscribed by the author “To Nunnally Johnson. ‘co-chairman’ Ben Hecht.” Hecht and Johnson accounted for much of the best writing in Hollywood, co-writing one episode in “O. Henry’s Full House,” and Johnson was married at the home of Hecht’s great friend and collaborator Charles MacArthur (and his wife, Helen Hayes). Hecht passionately attacked anti-Semitism, and his vocal, steadfast support for Israel’s independence from Great Britain came at great personal cost, leading to his boycotting by that nation.
