About This Item
London: Oxford University Press, 1960. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. This is the first printing of the first edition, with the "First Published 1960" notation on the verso of the title page. The interior of the book is crisp and clean. The paper has darkened very slightly, but there are no no signatures, marks or damage. The yellow cloth covers are fresh, with gentle bumps at the top and bottom of the spine, but minimal wear else. The dust jacket is also in Very Good condition. It is not corner clipped, shows very minor edgewear, but has no rips, chips or damage. The jacket is now in a new protective mylar cover. The attached scan should give a better idea of condition. Synopsis: This is the story of a disastrous flood in a small English village, and how two young children -- Mark and Mary -- found the strength to respond when all was black. Mary had thought herself cowardly, and Mark had often been told he was irresponsible, but knowing that two older neighbours were marooned in a dangerous position, they set out in an old rowboat to rescue them.
