Balderston is best remembered for a significan revision for the American stage of Hamilton Deane's 1924 play "Dracula"; the Balderston version opened on Broadway in 1927 and ran for 261 performances. The New York production featured Bela Lugosi in his first major English-speaking role, as well as Edward Van Sloan as Van Helsing. Both actors reprised their roles in the iconic 1931 Universal film. Balderston also worked on three mystery and horror films in 1935: "The Mystery of Edwain Drood", "The Bride of Frankenstein", and "Mad Love". He was also an uncredited contibutor to the 1935 film "The Mark of The Vampire". In 1936 he wrote a verson of "Dracula's Daughter" for David O. Selznick that was sold to Universal but it was a version that was never produced.
