About This Item

New York, NY: Simon and Schuster, 1996 Simon and Schuster, New York. 1996. Hardcover. First Printing by Line Number. Book is tight, square, and unmarked. Book Condition: Very Good +; light bumping to head and tail; light shelfwear to board bottom edges; three small splash spots on textblock fore edge. DJ: Very Good +; NOT Price Clipped ($30.00); light bumping to head, tail, and tips. Mauve paper over boards with green cloth overlay on the spine; bright gilt lettering on the spine. 574 pp 8vo. The author has a long history of reporting on the Middle East and takes the reader deep within the militant Islamic movements in ten Middle Eastern countries: Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Algeria, Libya, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Israel, and Iran. She shows that there is not unified Arab world, so there is no unified Islam, for even in the Koran, God has ninety-nine names. The militant Islamic movements are as different as the countries n which they have arises, and the methods of combating these movements are equally diverse and of varying intensities. The author feels that the problems of underdevelopment and underemployment have permitted these militant groups to flourish. A clean very presentable copy.
