About This Item
Ventura County Museum of History and Art 2004. Soft Cover / Pictorial Covers. Very Good/No Dust Jacket. Art Dolls, Historical Figures, Actors. Full Color color Illustrations. George Stuarts historical figures are not dolls, and he doesn't like people calling them that. But today there is a whole genre of Art Dolls as an art form. Each one is a master piece, at 1/4 scale to the the real person. Exacting detail, and finery. George presented lectures on history around the world, and he considered these figures his "actors". There are 400 or so dolls in the Ventura County Museums collection, and they are on permanent display, rotated regularly. I personally have seen many over the years. They are a true marvel. I purchased this book new at the museum. As of 2022, George is still a resident of Ojai California, and is 93. This lovely book offers a glimpse into his artful world of history. The book explores several figures but also how George landed in this profession. This copy is like new, in lovely gift quality condition. It's a tall soft cover. Profusely illlustrated with details, and closeups of his work. Wonderful copy of this scarce book. When Stuart moved to Ojai, California in 1959, he opened The Gallery of Historical Figures and began teaching workshops on figural construction, costuming and sculpting faces. In 1991, the city of Ojai presented Stuart with its Lifetime Achievement in the Arts award. He also has been recognized by the United States Congress. Stuart's Historical Figures are on permanent exhibit at the Museum of Ventura County and the Naples Museum of Art in Naples, Florida. Temporary exhibits have been held at Pasadena Museum of History, the Ojai Valley Museum of History and Art, the Oxnard Library, and California State University. ~ We appreciate your consideration of one of our books, art prints or novelty items.
