David & Charles, Newton Abbot, 1969. reprint.. Hardback. Cloth, VG+. [ii]+xvi+432pp, folding frontis map, 2pp folding plate, cloth slightly rubbed & bumped otherwise a fine copy. Useful facsimile reprint of Young's 1813 work. Although not a successful farmer, Young [ 1741 - 1820 ] built up for himself a substantial reputation as an expert on agricultural improvement. He was appointed secretary of the Board of Agriculture in 1793. The works written for the Board constitute an invaluable source for farming practices at the end of the eighteenth century and the period of the Napoleonic wars.
