About This Item
Garden City: Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc, 1942. First U. S. Edition. Near Fine/Very Good. First American printing, in original, unclipped ($2.50), jacket. The author's 3rd novel and the basis for the 1944 film of the same name starring, Joan Fontaine. About an English nobel-woman who mutually falls for a rougish French pirate. The jacket has scuffs at edges and along folds, a 1/2 inch closed tear on the front lower, and 1 inch closed tear along front hinge (I only noticed when looing at the inside of the jacket) very minor chipping at the head/tail of the spine, and tape residue on the inside flap edges (also on the pastedowns) where the jacket was taped to the cover at some point in the past, tape remnant on the back of the jacket and a spot of residue on the front - still in very good condition with a strong illustration and colors and no toning to the spine. Bound in blue cloth over boards with a debossed facsimile signature on the front and bronze gilding on the spine. Slight lean, gentle rubbing at corners. Yellow top-stain, deckled long edge, and roughly cut lower edge. Inscription to ffep, otherwise the interior is clean, clear and generally crisp.
