A charming account of the lives of the English under the four King Georges, illustrated throughout and in a signed binding from Bayntun's. A beautiful full morocco edition of this non-fiction work from British novelist William Makepeace Thackeray, in a Bayntun's signed binding.With thirty two illustrated plates, and numerous further vignette engravings.A delightful work consisting of sketches of the manners, morals, court and town life during the reign of these four kings named George. The author details 'people occupied with their every-day work or pleasure: my lord and lady hunting in the forest, or dancing in the court, or bowing to their Serene Highnesses, as they pass in to dinner'.This work is derived from lectures on the first four Hanoverian monarchs were originally given by Thackeray in London, alongside further lectures on English humourists. In a full morocco signed Bayntun's binding, with gilt detailing. Fading to back strip. Binder's stamp to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Some instances of light spotting throughout, most concentrated to pages facing plates. Very Good Indeed
