Partly inspired by his 1919 original autobiography The Story of a Labrador Doctor. Sir Wilfred Grenfell was a renowned and greatly admired medical missionary to Newfoundland. He inspired two characters in Canadian literature, Dr. Luke in Norman Duncan's Doctor Luke of the Labrador (1904) and Dr. Tocsin in White Eskimo by Harold Horwood (1972).In the publisher's original teal cloth binding with titles stamped in gilt to spine.
