Folio, 34.5 x 24.5 cm. 2 parts in 1, titles with large woodcut device of cannon, full-page engraved portrait of the author by W.Kilian, woodcut head- & tail-pieces, initials and diagrams at beginning, 171 woodcut illustrations of which 7 double-page and 15 full-page, no pages.57-60 but complete. The second, last, and best edition of Lorini's work, and the first edition to contain Book VI. The new book 'Delle fortificationi libro sesto, dove si tratta della difesa delle fortezze' deals principally with sieges, addressing practical problems, like how to repair breached walls, make temporary or portable defences, make the artillery mobile and protect the artillerist, all of which was based on the author's experience in the field. This edition also contains 18 new chapters to the earlier books, with 27 new woodcuts. Raised bands, spine panels richly gilt, modest shelf wear, a few bottom margins stained, scattered toning, small ink library stamp on title, one introductory leaf damp stained at head (approx. five centimeters).
