This early feminist author is best known for her journalism, writing about political economy, philosophy, religion, and her travels in America. Bookplates of William Thomas Rowland Powell 1815 - 1878] was a Welsh landowner and Conservative politician who serves as Member of Parliament for Cardiganshire from 1859 until 1865.. A series of stories in which there is a substantial truth at the foundation (author's preface) meant to expound on the necessity for reform of the laws governing the preservation of forest and wild game. A nice triple decker in original cloth. Books are very good+ and quite bright. Edges lightly rubbed. Contents good with armorial bookplates to each volume. Spine broken in multiple places. Volumes 2 and 3 soiled, faded, and chewed, but binding tight. Both volumes warped, particularly volume 3. Volume 3 rear board nearly detached. Previous owner's name stamped on fore-edge and front pastedown of each volume. Insides otherwise generally clean. Written by an early feminist author often regarded as the first female sociologist.
