Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1863. Hardcover, purple embossed cloth with gilt decorated and lettered spine. 360 pages. Illustrated with 12 full page plates, as called for. Early printing, 1863, of the title first published in America in 1854. Contemporary gift inscription on front free end-paper, dated Sept. 19th, 1864. Some loss to top and bottom of spine and mild foxing, mostly limited to margins. Text clean and illustrations, which are printed on heavier stock, very clean with no foxing or toning. A solid copy with strong hinges, in original mid Victorian decorative cloth binding. Good. . Hardcover. Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
